BE: Charitable

BE: Charitable

The 8th annual International Day of Charity is upon us (September 5, 2021). The intention of this occasion is as it sounds, but allows us to share the United Nation’s definition:

“The International Day of Charity was established to sensitize and mobilize people, NGOs, and stakeholders all around the world to help others through volunteer and philanthropic activities.”

Originally a Hungarian civil society initiative to commemorate Mother Teresa’s death, International Day of Charity on September 5 took off worldwide in 2012 when the UN declared it an international holiday. Besides honoring Mother Teresa’s tireless work to help others overcome poverty and suffering, the holiday provides a platform for charitable opportunities to take place. If you can’t make a financial donation on September 5, there are still many ways to get involved. Overall, this day reminds us that simple acts of charity can alleviate the worst effects of humanitarian crises and create more inclusive and resilient societies.

Charity in ACTION is as simple as 1-2-3:

  1. Donate
  2. Volunteer
  3. Attend an Event

This year I did observe a few interesting facts on charity. Indeed, the most charitable country on earth is Australia where 1/3 volunteer and 2/3 donate money. Women are also noted to be more likely to help a stranger, contribute to charity and volunteer.

WHY is this day important to observe and promote?

Reminds us to GIVE BACK

Spreads awareness of local and global needs

Helps us to explore and connect with causes we care about

Encourage our children to cultivate compassion as a lifestyle. Visit the  ‘Plant a Seed and See What Grows Foundation ‘ for more ideas on honoring charitable work in a fun manner that teaches our children about the spirit of philanthropy.
